Motorola's new rugged i580
Motorola's new rugged i580
Motorola strayed from its current obsession with rolling out new Razrs to introduce the rugged Motorola i580 for Sprint Nextel. The iDEN phone has a rubberized exterior for extra durability, and like many Nextels, it meets military specifications for dust, rain, shock, and vibration. Features are more or less what you'd expect from a Nextel phone, but that's not to say it doesn't bring any surprises. There's a 1.3-megapixel camera with a 4X zoom, flash, and a self-timer; video recording and playback; support for GPSA location-based services; Bluetooth for headsets and data transfers; a TransFlash card slot; push-to-talk support for the Mototalk off-network digital walkie-talkie service; and a WAP 2.0 wireless Web browser. Also, in a departure from previous Nextel phones, where the speaker is on the back of the phone, the i580 has front dual speakers. The i580 will be available by the second quarter of this year.
