T-Mobile offers up more Samsung Galaxy S 4G details

When T-Mobile and Samsung confirmed the existence of the Samsung Vibrant 4G a couple of weeks ago, the companies went a little light on the details of the device, but now, T-Mobile is spilling the beans.

Starting afresh with a new name, the Android 2.2-based Samsung Galaxy S 4G is expected to be available in February and will be the carrier's first smartphone capable of theoretical download speeds of up to 21Mbps. To put the 4G speeds to good use, the carrier is shipping the device with its T-Mobile TV app, which allows you to watch live and on-demand mobile HD programs from such channels as ABC News, Fox Sports, and PBS Kids.

It will also support Samsung's Media Hub video store where you can rent or purchase TV shows and movies, and much like the Samsung Vibrant, the Galaxy 4G will come preloaded with a full-length movie: Christopher Nolan's "Inception." (The Vibrant came loaded with "Avatar.")

A number of other applications are bundled with the smartphone, including DoubleTwist with AirSync, Slacker Radio, Amazon Kindle for Android, and Qik for video chats via the rear-facing 5-megapixel camera or front-facing camera.

In terms of hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G features a 4-inch Super AMOLED touch screen, a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor, an ST-Ericsson M5720 HSPA+ 4G modem, a preinstalled 16GB microSD card, and a 1,650mAh lithium ion battery.
