Second-gen YotaPhone slated for late 2014 launch
The first iteration of the dual-screen smartphone -- LCD on side, e-ink screen on the other -- is only now just arriving in its debut market, Russia.
Yota Devices, the mobile company that has caught the attention of the smartphone world with its dual-screen YotaPhone, already has its sights set on a second-generation device.
Speaking to Pocket-lint in an interview published Wednesday, Yota chief Vlad Martynov said that his company plans on launching the second-generation YotaPhone in late 2014. Martynov didn't provide details on the second-generation handset.
Martynov was also forthcoming in an interview with CNET. During that discussion, Martynov said that his company is already "working very hard on the second" YotaPhone, adding that plans are also in place for a third-generation option. It's expected that the future iterations will have a broader footprint internationally than Yota's current handset.
The original YotaPhone is launching this week in Russia for a starting price of around $675. The Android-based handset boasts two displays -- a 4.3-inch LCD on one side and an e-ink screen on the other.
