Samsung Galaxy S5 likely at Feb. 24 launch event

Samsung will once again stage a major product launch at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month. It really couldn't be anything other than the Galaxy S5 marquee phone.

All eyes will be on Samsung for the likely launch of its Galaxy S5 smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy-gazers, it's time to turn your attention back to Barcelona. Samsung announced on Monday that it's launching its next major flagship product at Mobile World Congress on February 24, and this Unpacked 5 event couldn't plausibly be anything other than the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Samsung has a long history of introducing its yearly Samsung Galaxy lineup in this time frame, either in late February at Mobile World Congress, or in early March, like last year's Galaxy S4 production in New York.

Rumors about the next-gen Galaxy smartphone take in a 2,560x1,440 ultra high-resolution AMOLED display and a Samsung-built 64-bit eight-core Exynos processor. It's also expected to have a 16-megapixel camera, 3GB of RAM, and a hulked-out 4,000mAh battery.

As for Samsung's other special features, these run the gamut from an all-new design with a metal chassis, to fingerprint-scanning authentication, and new, long-lasting battery tech.

CNET will be on the ground in Barcelona to capture every detail. Until then, read up on all the Samsung Galaxy S5 leaks and whispers here.
