Samsung Galaxy S 2 arrives on 1 May and it's £100 cheaper

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 isn't delayed as long as we feared -- and will launch with a faster processor and cheaper price.

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 isn't delayed as long as we feared. Samsung has just confirmed the Galaxy S' successor will hit shops on 1 May, later than the promised 31 March launch -- but bringing a faster processor and cheaper price.

The Galaxy S 2 was originally scheduled for release late last month, but was pushed back to 6 May according to online retailers. The good news is Samsung has used the extra time to give the S 2 a more powerful 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a boost over the 1GHz chip previously promised.

The other good news is the price is dropping faster than an NHS budget. wants £500 for the S 2, a full hundred quid less than the asking price six weeks ago.

The hotly anticipated S 2 is the sequel to the massively popular Galaxy S, which sold more than 10 million last year. The S 2 adds the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread software with Samsung's Game Hub and Music Hub competing with Apple's iTunes Store and App Store. It sports a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display in a new angular design, with an 8-megapixel camera and 1080p HD video recording and playback.

Gadget fans have been plagued with delays lately. O2 has delayed the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play over "software bugs", while its manufacturer says "supply-chain disruptions resulting from the situation in Japan" have affected shipping of the Play, the Arc and especially the Neo.

The BlackBerry PlayBook is reported to be delayed because Apple has bought lots of screens for the iPad 2. And then of course there's the king of delayed phones, the white iPhone 4.
