HTC expects Sense 5 for select 2012 phones

The Taiwanese company confirms its custom user interface will come to the HTC One X and other Android smartphones.

The HTC One X (AT&T) should see Sense 5 UI in the coming months.

HTC quietly confirmed today (or should I say quietly and brilliantly?) that its custom Sense 5 interface will come to select 2012 Android smartphones. A post on the company's Facebook from last week tells of multiple models which should expect the new HTC experience.

A number of 2012 models should see HTC Sense 5. HTC (Facebook)

The short list of devices tapped for the HTC Sense 5 UI are the HTC One X, One X+, One S and the HTC Butterfly. HTC does not explicitly name which iterations will see the update though it mentions "global variants." Depending on how loosely this is interpreted, we might see the Droid DNA and possibly the HTC Evo 4G LTE picking up the Sense 5 experience. Really, I would hope for all 2012 models to see the update.

As was the case with previous handset updates, HTC may need to strip out some of the options and functions in order for the UI to work properly. What's more, hardware limitations may prevent specific Sense 5 features from working on "older" models. Most likely, these types of details center around the camera and the Zoe touches.

We should look forward to a more formal announcement for the Sense 5 update in the coming weeks as HTC readies the software.
