Google Pixel phones and Daydream View VR headset head to the UK
The tech titan's two new phones, its VR headset and Chromecast Ultra will be arriving in the UK. No such luck for the Google Home smart hub or Google Wifi router.
Google's two brand new, own-brand phones are coming to the UK and are available for preorder online immediately.
The smaller of the two devices, the Pixel, will start at £599 for the 32GB model, rising to £699 for the 128GB model. The Pixel XL is a pricier beast, starting at £719 for the 32GB model, going up to £819 for the 128GB model. All are on the Google Store right now.
The Pixel phones have a tonne of new features, including Google Assistant built directly into the software and a camera built by Sony that Google says is the best phone camera in the business. If you'd prefer to take a closer peek at the phones before placing your order, you'll be able to see them in EE and Carphone Warehouse shops from 20 October.
Google isn't excluding virtual reality fans from taking advantage of its new Harry Potter experience, and will be introducing its new Daydream View VR headset to the UK in November for £69. The headset is wrapped up in soft fabric, leaves room for your glasses and looks like it might be the comfiest VR tech on the market yet.
During Tuesday's launch event, Google also announced the Chromecast Ultra, a revamped version of its plug-and-play streaming device that beams content playing on your phone straight to your telly. Compatible apps include Netflix, Red Bull TV, BBC iPlayer, All4, Now TV and BT Sport. It will be available "soon", Google promises, also costing £69.
The bad news is that Google Home and Google Wifi, the company's smart home hub-cum-speaker and its router, aren't coming to the UK just yet. It's a shame, as Amazon's rival smart home hub, the Alexa-powered Echo, just launched in the UK, which will put Google on the back foot for now.
