Google will announce a new Android version next month, according to a new report.

At some point in November, Google will co-host an event with LG where it will unveil Android 4.2, according to blog Android And Me, citing a source. The Android tracker says that LG will take the opportunity to show off its Optimus G Nexus, a device that will be based on the previously announced Optimus G, but will run the latest operating system.

LG unveiled the Optimus G last month. The device comes with a host of impressive specs, including a 4.7-inch WXGA screen, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. The handset comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage.

Android And Me's sources didn't offer up too many details on the Optimus G, but the blog claims that Android 4.2 will be a nominal update over Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). According to the blog's sources, the new operating system will come with better power management and an improved Google Play store. Other than that, not much will change, according to Android And Me's sources.

As Google reportedly prepares to deliver a new Android version, the company is still dealing with a heavily fragmented marketplace. Earlier this week, Google revealed on its developers page that Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), which launched back in December 2010, is still the most popular software version, tallying 55.5 percent share. Jelly Bean has only mustered 1.8 percent share so far.

CNET has contacted both LG and Google for comment on the report. We will update this story when we have more information.
