Flappy Bird flies again online, flies free of your phone

Flappy Bird flies again! The hugely popular flappy app has flown the coop from app stores but has taken wing online.

Flappy Bird flies again! The hugely popular -- and devilishly hard -- mobile game may have flown the coop from app stores but you can now get in a flap without needing a phone.

As spotted by eagle-eyed bargain-hunters at Hot UK Deals, the game can be played for free in your browser at flappybird.io. Just tap your spacebar to guide the titular agitated avian through Mario-like pipes -- and yes, it's every bit as hard as the version on your phone.

The game's developer Dong Nguyen plucked the game from the Apple App Store and Google Play this weekend after fans flocked to Twitter to a squawk a bizarre torrent of abuse and harassment at him. Whether genuine overwhelmed reaction or canny PR stunt, the decision to take flight has certainly ruffled a few feathers.

The original game has flown south but various Flappy Bird alternatives have taken wing, like Dong Nguyen's own Super Ball Juggling, or rivals Clumsy Bird, Flappy Bee, and the excellently-named Iron Pants.

Are you a Flappy Bird fan? The comments are below -- if you can't think of anything to say, just wing it.
