Duke Nukem 3D out now on Android

Oh, Duke Nukem. We had to wait so many years for you to return, and now we can't get rid of you. The videogame world's favourite musclebound misogynist is making his way to your Android mobile, courtesy of a port of his classic 1996 adventure Duke Nukem 3D.

It's available to download now from the Android Market, priced at a mere 61p. Helpfully, there's a tablet-optimised version if you're playing on something like the Motorola Xoom or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

It would appear the game initially appeared with ads, but developer MachineWorks Northwest quickly released an update that got rid of them. A smart move, we reckon.

The less smart move? This isn't the full game. Episode one is included in the download price, but you'll need to shell out an additional $0.99 (62p or thereabouts) to access episodes two and three. Of a game you bought 15 years ago. Rubbish.

Needless to say, you'll be controlling the action using on-screen touch controls. We're yet to find a first-person shooter that really feels natural to play using a touchscreen, but if you were a fan of the first game, you might find this delivers an injection of nostalgia.

Then again, it might sour your precious childhood memories, but you win some, you lose some. iPhone owners, meanwhile, will be giggling into their milk -- a port of Duke Nukem 3D has been available for Apple's mobile OS for a couple of years already.

Duke's more recent outing was Duke Nukem Forever, a game that was in production for 14 years, and sucked, with a 3.5/10 score from our sister site GameSpot.
