iOS 7 is out now! Download iOS 7 and update your iPhone and iPad with the new Apple software to enjoy a souped-up unlock screen, colourful new icons, better multi-tasking and much more.

It might take a while to reach your phone, so don't hold your breath. Bear in mind too that half the world is trying to download the update at the same time -- if you leave it until tomorrow morning America will be asleep so the process should be quicker.

The iOS 7 release date was revealed last week along with the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, which hit shops on Friday. It's a free update that gives your iPhone, iPad or iPod the biggest makeover since iOS began.

The size of the update depends on what phone you have and what software you're currently running, so you might need to clear some space by having a clear-out of photos or other files. And the scrum to download the update can lead to big delays -- if it takes a while, don't forget to take to Twitter to complain.

You can update your Apple device if you have an iPhone 4, 4S or iPhone 5; an iPad 2, new iPad, iPad with retina display and iPad mini; and the fifth generation iPod touch.

If you have an older phone or tablet, it's also worth waiting a few days before updating. There are always bugs in software updates that can hit older devices hard, so why not let someone else throw themselves on that particular grenade?

Whatever device you're updating, before you get started don't forget to back up all your pictures, videos, music, apps and the rest on your computer, to iTunes and iCloud.

What are you looking forward to in iOS 7? Update your thoughts in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
