A stainless-steel iPhone 7 case that's as sleek -- or sleeker -- than the iPhone

The design for IOM Cases' new GT Series iPhone cases was inspired by exotic, high-performance super cars.

IOM Cases, which makes one of the slickest metal cases I've encountered, says its case design is inspired by its founders' passion for exotic, high-performance super cars. The cases are made out of aerospace-grade, non-magnetic stainless steel and have multiple layers of custom paint and specialized coatings with a soft-touch polycarbonate trim and inner lining. The "Coolmesh" design on the back is supposed to give your iPhone some breathing room and "keep it running cool." The company's iPhone 7 cases will be shipping soon, with iPhone 7 Plus cases coming later in the year. The case pictured here is the Extreme GT Exotic Blue ($60). The case will eventually be available in several color options and is backward compatible with the iPhone 6/6S.  See more info and pricing for IOM Cases Extreme GT case for iPhone 7

The cases come in a variety of finishes and colors with a rubberized interior. The case fits the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6/6S, with a 7 Plus version due to ship in late December.

Aside from the flashy finishes, what's nice about the case is that it's slim but also seems to provide a decent amount of protection. However, the case looks so nice you won't want to drop it and have it get dinged up.

If you're concerned about cell-signal loss due to the stainless-steel construction, I didn't have a problem with during the couple of days I tested the phone. Scott Friedland, one of the founders, says, "We've tested the case with various customers carriers and it [signal loss] hasn't been an issue."

He adds that the cases are perforated at the top to have more RF (radio frequencies) "flow more easily."

As with other premium metal cases, GT Series cases aren't cheap at $60, but they also don't cost a fortune.

IOM Cases is offering a discount code (cnet10hday) to CNET readers that's available to use now through Cyber Monday at iomcases.com, as supplies for the cases last. It gives you a 10 percent discount ($6) and expedited shipping.
