Segway's hoverboard competitor finally lands in USA
It's true hoverboards have a bad rep.
They explode, they catch, or simply go too fast, and sometimes all at once.
Despite the bad press, Ninebot by Segway, is debuting it's own self-balancing scooter.
The Minipro is premium hoverboard priced at $1,000.
Yes, that is expensive But it does have some features the others don't.
The scooter has a range of 14 miles, and after you complete the safety tutorial and I trial period, it has a top speed of 10 miles per hour.
Segway has insured that safety is a priority with speed limiting features, for example, it automatically leans backwards if you're going too fast.
This is also the first device to meet the new UL certification for hoverboards.
One of the coolest, though impractical, features is the bluetooth remote control.
It's great for scaring other people, but there's no camera so you're limited to lien of sight only.
And it's illegal to ride this on New York City streets, we had to make do with riding the scooter around the office And optimally varying the grades of six.
You steer the mini probe by gripping this thing between your thighs.
Like a standard hover board, you lean forward to accelerate and lean back to decelerate or reverse.
I did find the scooter a little bit touchy.
Especially when getting on or when going over small obstacles.
Sometimes when getting off of it, it sometimes had a mind of it's own.
And a thousand bucks is about three or four times the price of other name brand hoverboards.
But the safety features are a nice touch.
They remain to be seen if these will be enough to convince the cops they're okay.
After using the device for a few hours I'm still a little apprehensive about it, but you can't deny the miniPro is a lot of fun.
