>> Check out the Mitsubishi Concept RA. First of all, it's a very lightweight car. It's a sports car obviously, small in its shape. They envision a space frame, polycarbonate panels for the body, much of which I think would come from recycled materials, as would much of the interior. But lightweight only gets you so far in the green mission, you gotta have a lean power plan. So 2.2 liter inline four turbo diesel with common rail direct injection. That's kind of the hot new diesel these days, and it gives you a nice turbo boost low end. So you've great torque, it's not one of those sluggish diesels that we all grew up with. So all this comes together for 310 foot pounds with not a whole lot of weight, that's a nice formula. And no, the hood's not off, there really isn't one. It has kind of an exposed engine cover, as opposed to a traditional finished hood. You either love or hate that detail. We're also looking at an interesting gearbox here, one that is real. It's their TCSST, which is a twin clutch manumatic. It's really a manual transmission with electronic control, making shifts faster than you ever could. Now of course this vehicle is a concept, not coming to market immediately. But one of the things about diesels that has been figured out is making them clean enough to come to market. This uses all kinds of catalysts and scrubbers in the exhaust sequence, and down lead manifolds in the pipelines there to really put out some clean exhaust. But they don't use the Urea injection that seems to be very fashionable with a lot of other car makers.

This is not gonna come to market any time soon, it's a pure concept. In the meantime you may have to go out and get a Lancer Ralliart to keep yourself busy.
