>> Small cars are great. America's figuring that out. They're inexpensive to buy, easy and fun to drive, don't use much gas. Oh yeah, we're also figuring out something else, you feel like a loser when you drive one. Not so in this case is my hunch. This is the new Ford Focus, a true world car that will be sold in largely the same form in many continents and it's a European-inspired vehicle. It comes from the European Mondeo platform. Now what they're addressing here is taking a small car but making it feel upscale. You do that with the lines, of course. You also do it with high-quality materials inside the vehicle. And, of course, a variety of Ford's technology options will be here. We'll sort that out when the car comes to market. Now, under the hood will be a 2 liter, direct injected 4 cylinder engine. Notice I didn't mention a turbo so it's not a EcoBoost, just a DI4. I'm sure later they'll add an EcoBoost to this thing for some kind of a hot rod type of the car. 155 horsepower, 145 foot pounds of torque. Perfectly adequate numbers and they say 10 percent better MPG than the outgoing Focus, whatever that turns out to be. We'll wait for the actual EPA numbers. Another part of what's happening here though is this is no longer the same Focus in terms of how it prints as the outgoing car. Notice that it's creeping its way up market as the new Fiesta slots in below it, so there's a little more differentiation at the low-end of Ford's line. This is a little nicer car in terms of its intentions than the outgoing Focus. And as part of that effort, they'll be offering a pretty good array of tech either standard or optional. Sync, of course, the My Ford Touch Interface, which is brand new as we start 2010, even the automatic parking technology we've seen and loved on some Lincoln cars early out. The transmission will be a dual clutch, that's pretty exotic stuff for an inexpensive car. It's gonna be a dual clutch 6-speed manual with dry clutches. Whether a 4-door sedan or a 5-door hatch, we're waiting for the pricing on this car. The production starts late 2010 for global launch. We'll see it in showrooms early 2011.
