[ Background music ] >> MDX, it's a tortured acronym for multi dimensional luxury, seriously. Luckily the result is more elegantly realized than the name. Let's drive the 2010 Acura MDX advance with entertainment and check the tech. ^M00:00:18 [ Music ] ^M00:00:25 Our Grigio metallic MDX is top of the line, it's an advanced model with an entertainment package for the rear seat. It's based on the second generation platform which debuted back as a 2007 and this is Acura's bestselling vehicle period. Well thank God we got something new in here they've redone the screen, the interface, the look of this ancient Honda Acura system which I was just about getting fed up with. Now we've got a whole new look. I mean it's the same basic design but look at the improved graphics quality on this screen. Thank you what took so dam long? You see it not just in the map quality where I can finally read street names without having to wonder what is that weird character, but I can also see it in the menus. Same basic geography as you've seen in Honda's and Acura's since Roosevelt was in the office, but we do have a much better layout and a more I think readily understood graphical treatment. Again if you know how to use a Honda Acura system nothing is changed, it's the same kind of logic of getting around and entering. The same annoying predictive text where I have to click over all the letters that aren't possible, I still don't get that, but it's pretty quick because now a hard drive based system as well. We have a lot of different drives going on in this car so lets segway now from the map into the other sources. We have a CD drive here, this is for your audio playback and then down here we've got another drive for DVD, that's kind of an Acura thing where they divide it up into 2 different drives. It makes for kind of a busy center stack especially when you couple it with their natural desire to use as many buttons as possible which is a very Acura thing so that's a really busy part of a car. AM and FM on this guy, no HD radio by the way. XM satellite radio that's always been on Honda Acura products, that's also your source for live traffic and weather on the navigation system and of course this gets us to our disk menu. Notice because we have a hard drive you can see on the icons there we have the ability to record from the CD to the drive which we're doing right now. Continuing on our tour of great sources we have a variety under the aux button which is labeled USB aux. Notice what we've got here first of all Bluetooth audio not just Bluetooth hands free for phone and of course Acura has always had pretty darn good phonebook import so that's going on here as well. Here's our auxiliary for an auxiliary jack including video input but more interestingly here's our iPod connection. We have our iPod Touch connected here to a universal USB pigtail down in there which is the right way to do it. Now when I first connected my iPod it did a scan of all of the music and created audio tags for what's on there allowing us to use a new feature called iPod search which is voice driven. Check it out. iPod search, play Van Morrison. There are a ton of commands that go with this voice command system by the way. Acura's always had a nice lexicon if you will of things you can do to tell this system how to handle it's media, how to handle telephony, how to handle navigation, but you do have to know what it wants to hear and I don't find the onscreen prompts quick rich enough. Now everything on the media system comes out of one of these ELS, Eliot Shiner Panasonic head units, 410 watts of power coming out of this, 10 speakers, surround sound, you've got a variety of technology supported here including DTS and Dolby Pro Logic and as I mentioned you got the Grace Note data base as well. Now if you get this car with the technology and the entertainment trim level, again everything trim levels on this dam thing. You end up with a rear seat entertainment system here. 8 inch LCD widescreen of course, motorized thing goes up and down. 2 pair of wireless headphones. You've also got auxiliary jacks down here for audio and video. Those can be shown on this screen, also Matrixed into the front as you can see on those buttons and you've also got some hardwired headphone jacks. You can get the whole dam family back here listening to wired and wireless headphones. I mean I'm counting 5 total sets. In Acura fashion the climate system is linked to GPS so it can tell what side of the car needs more cooling or heating. I've never detected it working but I guess that's the idea. ^M00:04:23 [ Music ] ^M00:04:34 Under the hood of 2010 MDXs is a fresh 3.7 liter direct injection V6 doing 300 horsepower and 270 foot pounds of torque, while delivering pretty good 1621 fuel economy. In front of that engine is the new massive Acura mighty morphine power ranger face. Behind the engine is a one choice only 6-speed automatic with paddles and a sport profile position on the gate. MDXs all have super handling all wheel drive, which can buy us the power, front rear, anywhere from 9010 to 3070 and between the rear wheels up to 100% either side. >> Ok let's price this guy you can get into a 2010 MDX with a basic tech package for about 46, not all that cheap, but this is a lot more than that because of the advance and entertainment trim levels we're looking at 54 plus by the time you get off the lot. There's not a lot to add to that, remote starts about 380, backup sensors to go with the rear view camera a little under 600, but this vehicle at this trim level includes just about everything I've shown you and that's a lot.
