2008 Ford Mustang V-6 Premium ConvertibleIt's the car that will make you feel like it's 1964-and-a-half all over again! Take a ride in the 2008 Ford Mustang V-6 Convertible.
[ Background Music ] >> Kind of like going back to the old days. '64 1/2 when the Mustang arrived. It was simple, kind of like this car, which is the '08 V6. Nothing too fancy about it, but of course it's 2008 so we're gonna check the tech. ^M00:00:12 [ Music ] ^M00:00:18 [ Background Music ] >> Well, it's just kind of where it all started, but moved forward to today. A basic Mustang, just like '64 1/2. By basic Mustang, we've got the V6 in this car, not the V8. This is not your street fighting car. The V6 does 210 horsepower, 3 valves per cylinder is the technology. A 210 horsepower doesn't sound very impressive, but they've got the programming on the transmission done in such a way and the engine is [inaudible]. It's just a fun little driver. That's okay folks. We have the optional 5-speed automatic. This car will base with a 5-speed manual, which is kind of refreshing on this day and age that they would have liked to have gotten that manual gearbox. I bet you could have some fun with this little V6 if you can mix your own, but such is the case. Let's check this out. Our little lowly Mustang actually has some tech niceties. Look at this upgraded head unit we've got here, in-dash 6-disc CD, not some hokey cartridge somewhere, upgraded with navigation. Now, the base car would not have nav, but it would have a 6-CD that reads MP3 discs, an auxiliary jack, we have that here in the console. That's a Shaker 500 system which has 6 speakers around the cabin. You can up it to what they call the Shaker 1000 for 10 speakers around the cabin. Let's look at this navigation system. The maps are pretty clear. They're not latest generation clear or elegant but they are not bad. You do have audio prompts from the system that tell you what to do, turn left, turn right, what have you. It's a touch screen though, so you can use the buttons around the display if you're button-centric or [inaudible] does this well, great big gettable buttons that are actually on the screen. Couple oddities on our little Mustang... First of all, ABS appears to be an option. That's right. Anti-lock brakes apparently are standard. They are listed as part of the safety and security package. That's kinda odd in a car sold in the First World. So, little disappointed if I'm reading that right. Then, there's this funny button right here which is, what is that? Light on your shoes. What the hell does that mean? Well, it turns out it's a color switch. Notice how it changes this band of color in the cup holder of all places, but that also changes the color up under the foot wells and on the gauge array. Little bit of Mustang wackiness. ^M00:02:38 [ Music ] ^M00:02:41 >> Now, pricing on our relatively humble little Mustang is relatively humble. You're gonna spend about, oh, 26 for the base car. This is a V6 they call Premium. It's trimmed out a little better than a totally base car, and on top of that, about two grands will get you the GPS nav system and retain the 6-disc in-dash changer. Rather grand for the automatic? I believe that off. Pretty good bargain for a piece of American of it. Does it win any races? But sure is fun. [ Music ]
