Verizon's next Droid slated for October 28

The official event email is in, and we have a pretty good idea of the carrier's next smartphone. Read on.

Verizon's Droid launch invitation is official.

The invitations are here! Verizon will officially introduce the next member of its Droid family of smartphones on October 28.

In addition to the invitation received by media outlets such as CNET, visitors of the carrier's DroidDoes website are now greeted with a shadowy handset and countdown. Look closely and you'll note the phone bears a striking resemblance to the much-rumored Motorola Droid Turbo.

CNET was first to report that Verizon and Motorola would introduce a new, fast-charging handset in October. Factor in a subsequent string of leaked benchmarks, sightings, and a user manual and we have a pretty clear picture that this is it.

The Droid Turbo is said to have a 5.2-inch ultra high definition display (1440p), a 21-megapixel rear camera, and 3GB RAM. And, as if rapid charging weren't enough, the Motorola phone could boast a downright massive 3,900mAh battery.

Stick with CNET for live impressions on launch day, and everything in between.
