Verizon to offer 3G service in Chicago

Verizon Wireless plans to offer service from a new telephone network in the Chicago area Tuesday, a company spokesman said. The network can download Web pages or e-mails about five times faster than most telephone systems. Verizon Wireless in January switched to similar telephone networks in an area between Virginia and Boston and in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Silicon Valley. Sprint plans to launch a similar so-called 3G system this summer.
