It seems more iPhone owners want to go wireless with their earphones than buy a Watch.

A US survey from Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Research says 12 percent of respondents plan to buy Apple's AirPods, its $159, £159 or AU$229 completely wireless earphones. Based on the results, AirPods could generate up to $3 billion in revenue for Apple.

The top reason respondents would take a pass on the 'Pods is their "current headphones are good enough," coming in just ahead of "too expensive," at 56 and 40 percent, respectively. Only 11 percent were worried about them keeping a connection.

The

was less appealing, however, with only 8 percent of respondents owning the first-gen model and 8 percent planning to pick up the Watch Series 2. Of the Watch Series 2 buyers, though, 70 percent would be new -- the rest being upgraders -- which shows some growth in the category for Apple.

Why were respondents not as eager for the Watch Series 2? With a starting price of $369, £369 or AU$529, 43 percent said it's too expensive, while 33 percent just don't want anything to do with a smartwatch.

Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
