Short Take: Williams completes Midwestern portion of fiber network

Williams Communications, the telecommunications unit of natural gas distributor Williams, has completed a portion of its proposed 32,000-mile fiber optic network in the Midwest. The addition means the company has now finished construction on more than 19,000 miles with 17,000 miles in service. The project is slated to be finished by 2000.
