Short Take: Tellabs unveils new switching tech

Tellabs rolled out a new switching device the company says can handle a variety of telecommunications and data services. The new Titan 6500 multiservice transport switch, scheduled to go into trials in December, can handle the needs of older telco networks, fiber-based links, and data switching. The company also rolled out a new gateway switch called the AN 2100 that can take circuit-based traffic and route it over an Internet protocol-based layout or asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network. The gateway will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
