Short Take: Lucent starts division for voice products

Lucent Technologies announced a new division focused on voice products for carrier networks. The new Lucent speech solutions unit, headed by executive Dan Furman, combines development groups from the company's Illinois and New Jersey units, and includes members of its Bell Labs research arm. The announcement of the new division follows plans to launch a set of software that can be used by service providers and carriers to offer advanced voice services.
