Short Take: Lucent extends dial-up technology

Lucent Technologies announced new dial-up Net access equipment for Internet service providers (ISP) with more density and features. The new APX 8000 gear, from the company's acquisition of Ascend Communications, provides more dial-up modem density for ISP networks than previous models up to 2,688 modems per shelf. It also allows those ISPs to offer Net, voice or fax services using the dial-up connection. The APX 8000 are available now.
