Samsung offering Galaxy Note 7 refunds in Australia and Asia
The Korean electronics giant will be refunding phones purchased in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.
If you're a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 owner in Australia, Singapore, Taiwan or Malaysia, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Samsung's confirmed that you'll be getting a refund for your phone.
The Korean electronics giant has released statements in these three countries, telling affected customers in Singapore and Australia that Note 7s can be exchanged for either the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge or a full refund option. Singapore customers can also choose another Samsung device, with a refund in the price difference.
Those living in Malaysia will only be able to choose between the Galaxy S7 or a full refund while customers in Taiwan can opt for to exchange it for an S7 Edge, the older Galaxy Note 5 or a full refund. For those living in Thailand and have made pre-orders as the phone has yet to officially go on sale, Samsung will refund the deposit as well as offer a discount on existing models.
This offer comes as the company halts production of the Note 7, effectively killing the product line. The drastic move follows new reports of exploding devices that had previously been deemed safe after a first round of product exchanges.
