Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Australian pricing and availability
From August 19, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Galaxy Note 7’s curves (and stylus).
Samsung's latest flagship will be landing down under on August 19, and you'll be able to preorder the Galaxy Note 7 starting on August 5 from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Virgin Mobile, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Samsung Retail and Samsung.com.au. The metal and glass phone packs in a curved screen, a USB-C charging port, iris scanning to unlock and an upgraded stylus, among other new features. While a lot of the hardware is similar to Samsung's S7 Edge, the feature-rich Note 7 is taking aim at the power users among us. You can read CNET's full hands-on preview here.
In Australia, the Note 7 will retail for AU$1,349, a step up from the S7 Edge, released earlier this year, which sold for AU$1,249. As for colour options, you'll be able to pick it up in black, silver and gold locally. No dice on the vaunted Coral Blue that CNET's Jess Dolcourt was so taken with.
To offset that a little, Samsung's offering a pre-order bonus. If you preorder the phone before August 18, you'll also score a 256GB microSD card (conveniently, the biggest card the Note 7 will take as expandable storage).
Optus
Optus' most popular offering is the AU$85 plan, which packs in 7GB of data and unlimited talk and text. Phone repayments bring that up to AU$96 per month for a minimum cost of AU$2,304 over 24 months.
Telstra
If you want the Note 7 on plan with Telstra, it starts at AU$95 per month for 1GB of data and AU$550 of included calls and text. That's a minimum of AU$2280 over 24 months. If 1GB isn't going to cut it for you (and it probably won't), the next best bet is the AU$110 per month plan for 10GB of data and unlimited talk and text for AU$2640 over 24 months. Telstra's plans also come with an additional data offering on Telstra Air, the telco's network of Wi-Fi hotspots.
Virgin
Virgin is offering the Note 7 on a number of plans. The AU$70 plan with AU$18 handset repayments (for a total of AU$88 per month) looks like the likely candidate for most customers. For a minimum spend of AU$2112 over 24 months, you get unlimited calls and text and 7GB of data per month.
Vodafone
A monthly plan with 6GB of data will cost you AU$92 with a minimum spend of AU$2208 over the 24-month contract, but jumping up to the 8GB tier -- AU$95 per month, including handset repayments -- will score you an extra 2GB for AU$3 a month. Both plans include unlimited calls and text.
