Your next phone packing Qualcomm's upcoming flagship processor will be able to reach download speeds that rival your wired computer, but only if your carrier's network supports it.

Making the announcement at its 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong, the chipmaker revealed that its upcoming Snapdragon 800 series processor (likely to be specifically the Snapdragon 830 processor), will feature its X16 LTE modem, which allows devices to download files at speeds of up to 1 Gbps.

Before you get all excited, however, Qualcomm says only 64 percent of carriers in the world can implement such speeds. There's also the question of data caps, as there's no point having superfast speeds if all it does is bust the data cap for the month.

There's no word yet on when the Snapdragon 830 will be available on phones, but given that the chipmaker usually releases a new flagship processor every year, it's likely we can expect to see something in 2017.
