Qualcomm pulls in CDMA phone estimate

Qualcomm on Wednesday lowered the projected sales of cell phones using its CDMA (code division multiple access) technology. It now believes up to 110 million cell phones using CDMA will be sold this year, a few million short of what the company forecast earlier in the year. Qualcomm executives lowered its estimate because of an expected decrease in sales of cell phones using a version of CDMA known as w-CDMA, which only a handful of carriers have so far committed to using.
