Potential Samsung Galaxy S successor looks like iPhone 4, but is it real?

Details of a new Samsung Android Gingerbread super phone have leaked on the Web -- and no, it isn't the Google Nexus S, which we wrote about two minutes ago.

Slides which purport to describe Samsung's next flagship device have been published by Engadget. Aimed for a February 2011 release, it has some very impressive hardware specs that make it superior to the Nexus S, with a possible 4.3-inch or 4.5-inch Super AMOLED 2 screen and an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, capable of capturing 1080p video. It should also carry a 1.2GHz processor, and 16GB of storage.

From the pictures it looks like the phone will be much thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S, with a design reminiscent of the iPhone 4. It sounds like a legitimate phone that could well be in development, but the slides Engadget published are very amateurish, as Android Police points out.

Engadget said it was confident these slides came from Samsung, and it might simply be just a hastily cobbled together bunch of images from a Samsung exec whose PowerPoint skills aren't up to snuff.

Whether this new flagship Galaxy is real or not, Samsung is on something of a roll at the moment with Android. The Samsung Galaxy Tab earned a very respectable four stars from us, while its development of the Google-branded Nexus S is a major endorsement of its hardware skills.
