Pantech and Alltel Wireless have announced the U.S. launch of the PN-218 handset, a new flip phone that has a compact yet rugged design, measuring 2.15 by 3.02 by 0.96 inches and weighing in at 3.84 ounces. The PN-218 comes with an external screen with 65,000-color support, as well as an internal screen with 260,000-color support. Features include a VGA camera with built-in flash and digital zoom, voice dialing, basic PIM tools, e-mail, text and picture messaging, wireless Web, speakerphone, voice recording, and BREW 2.1 capabilities. It also includes a ring-tone shuffler, which presumably allows you to shuffle through different ring tones. The PN-218 is currently available for $49.99 with a new two-year service agreement with Alltel.
