Is Microsoft moving its Media Center platform in new directions? That's the scoop from eWeek, which claims that Friday's Digital Life show in New York will be used to announce new Media Center features, such as on-demand entertainment from major content providers, as well as online shopping and e-mail access from the MCE interface (e-mail is already available via third-party plug-ins).

It's all part of the "Rollup 2" update to the Media Center OS, expected to be released via Windows Update later this month.
