Motorola phones to be waterproof and durable, Google hints
Longer-lasting batteries and sturdy screens were also tipped by Larry Page, during an earnings call.
Motorola's upcoming phones will be waterproof, have hard-to-break screens and long-lasting batteries, Google boss Larry Page has hinted.
Although Page didn't give any firm details on what Motorola is making, the Big G's CEO used a Google earnings call (skip to 21m42s) to talk about the phone-maker, and what features future devices should offer.
"Battery life is a challenge for most people," Page said. "You shouldn't need to carry around a charger with you to make it through the day."
"If your kid spills their drink on your tablet, the screen shouldn't die, and when you drop your phone it shouldn't shatter," Page went on to comment. "There is a real potential," Page said, "to invent new and better experiences, ones that are much faster and more intuitive, so having just seen Motorola's upcoming products myself, I'm really excited about the potential there."
That's a strong hint about what we'll see next from Motorola, which is rumoured to be working on a pure Android phone that won't feature any manufacturer-added software.
Having bought Motorola in 2011, Page now needs to get bigwig investors excited about forthcoming products, especially as Motorola's business saw a slide in revenue in the first three months of this year.
"In just under a year they've accomplished a lot," Page said of the business, which is struggling to compete with successful rivals Samsung and Apple.
