Micromax Canvas Turbo is a 5-inch smartie, could come to UK

India's biggest mobile maker has plans to expand to Europe with this, its latest Android smart phone.

You might not have heard of Micromax, but in its native India it's the second biggest mobile company after Samsung. And it could be about to launch in the UK, Android Community reports.

Its latest handset, the Canvas Turbo, has just launched in India, and will hit Russia in December. If that's successful, then Europe is next. Then the world, presumably.

The Canvas Turbo is a 5-inch smartie that's clad in aluminium. The screen resolution is a healthy 1,920x1,080 pixels, and inside are a 1.5GHz MediaTek chip (which should keep the cost down) and 2GB of RAM. Android 4.2.1 comes as standard. That's not the latest version of Jelly Bean unfortunately, but you can't have everything.

It's no slouch on the imaging front either. There's a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and a 5-megapixel front-facer.

The downside? There's no memory card slot, so you're limited to 16GB of storage. But us Nexus 4 owners should be used to that by now.

The handset has a 2,000mAh battery, and comes in "pristine white" and "midnight blue" colours.

Micromax has hit a pretty good price, too. The Canvas Turbo sells for about $325, which is around £200. If it can keep it around that for a UK launch, it could be very tempting indeed.

Obviously Micromax will need a huge marketing push if it hopes to make a dent in the mobile market in the UK and western Europe. But the company isn't short of a bob or two. It's enlisted none other than Hugh Jackman as the face of it, and I'm guessing Wolverine doesn't come cheap. Here he is with an Android full of Jelly Beans.

Would you be tempted by the Canvas Turbo? What do you think of that name? And how about that company logo -- it's a fist! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.
