LG's 5-5inch Gx launched in Korea

A new 5.5-inch LG smartphone has been launched in Korea. The Gx transplants the specs and features from the 5.2-inch G2 into a 5.5-inch shell.

The LG Gx was first leaked in some promotional documents, but that rumour has quickly become reality. The Gx was launched in Korea yesterday and features most of the same hardware as the slightly smaller G2.

A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 13-megapixel camera, 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and a big 3,140mAh battery are all largely in line with rumours and with LG's existing G2. The new phone's larger 5.5-inch display is a 1920x1080 pixel one, translating into a pixel density of 400ppi.

Running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the Gx has some LG-only features like Knock On, which wakes the phone after two taps on the screen in quick succession. A series of LG accessories can be bought to suit the Gx like the company's QuickWindow case, which has a flip cover with a transparent area for notifications.

For now, the LG Gx is a Korean-only launch, but an international version with Australian 4G band support may be on its way.
