LG Cosmos up close
We take a closer look at the LG Cosmos.
Despite its heavenly name, the LG Cosmos does not quite reach for the stars when it comes to features. However, it is a pretty decent starter messaging phone for Verizon customers. The Cosmos is essentially a rejiggering of the LG Rumor 2 for Verizon. The design is about the same--it has a candy-bar appearance with a number keypad when closed, and slides out horizontally to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard on the right side. When you slide out the keyboard, the display changes orientation from portrait mode to landscape mode. From the brief few minutes we had with it, the keypad has a nice slated texture so it was easy to dial by feel, and the keyboard was quite spacious and nice to type on as well.
Like the LG Remarq, the Cosmos has your basic messaging features like text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging, and e-mail. It also has a fairly basic 1.3-megapixel camera camera, GPS, Bluetooth, a speakerphone, and voice command. Like the Remarq, the Cosmos promises instant easy access to social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and more. You won't get 3G EV-DO, but at least you won't have to pay Verizon's monthly data plan.
The LG Cosmos will be available March 25 from Verizon Wireless for $29.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract.
