JDS Uniphase adds two to its board

Optical component maker JDS Uniphase said Wednesday that Kevin Kennedy, chief operating officer of Openwave Systems, and Richard Liebhaber, retired chief technology officer of MCI Communications, have joined the company's board of directors. Kennedy, who is a board member at Quantum, also spent seven years as a vice president at Cisco Systems and 17 years at Bell Laboratories in various research positions. Liebhaber became MCI's CTO in 1985 and previously worked at IBM. He also serves on the board of KPN/Qwest. JDS' board is led by Martin Kaplan, the chairman, and co-chairs Jozef Straus, JDS' CEO, and Don Scifres, its chief strategy officer. JDS' board has been through a year of change. Two board members, Wilson Sibbett and William Sinclair, resigned as a result of the merger with SDL, and board members John MacNaughton and Donald Listwin did not seek re-election at the company's annual meeting in November.
