iPod subway maps

Jasmine France Former Editor
On his daily troll through techie Web sites, our senior editor of digital audio stumbled across yet another useful tool for iPod owners. At a site called , there currently live 13 subway and rail maps that you can download to transfer to your photo-friendly iPod, and more maps are being submitted by users already. So far, you can choose from the Boston T, the Chicago L, the Hong Kong Metro, the London Underground, the Los Angeles Metro Rail (does anyone actually ride that in L.A.?), the Melbourne Train, the Montréal Métro, the New York City Subway, the San Diego Trolley System, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), the Toronto Subway, the Vancouver SkyTrain (just the name kinda entices you to take public transportation, doesn't it?), and finally the Washington D.C. Metro. I downloaded the BART file to my desktop and found the ZIP file to be virus-free and containing six easily legible JPEGs. (Each of the maps is split into sections so that the images will fit on the iPod's 220x176-pixel display but still have legible text.) When I transferred the maps to our resident iPod, the images looked great. And best of all, it's free! I'd recommend this site for any color-screen iPod owners who are new residents of or just visiting one of the available cities.
