iPhone 5 pre-order opens today, but is there an adaptor?
You can pre-order the iPhone 5 today, assuming you have at least £529 going spare. There's also confusion over whether a Lightning adaptor is in the box.
The iPhone 5 is available to pre-order today, giving Apple enthusiasts an early opportunity to bag themselves the company's spangly new smart phone -- assuming you've got at least £529 going spare.
On Apple's site, the 16GB iPhone 5 can be yours SIM-free for a quid less than £530, while the 32GB costs £599 and the 64GB version will set you back £699.
Phones ordered today currently have a dispatch estimate of two weeks, though as pre-order only opened today, it's plausible that you'll get your mobile delivered when the iPhone 5 goes on sale next Friday. Of course, you don't have to buy SIM-free -- UK operators are revealing their iPhone 5 prices today, so stay tuned for other ways to get your mitts on Apple's 4-inch gizmo.
The iPhone 5 is likely to be extremely popular, so expect that delivery estimate to increase as the days wear on. If you fancy taking your chances at an Apple Store on launch day, the Californian company has confirmed that the iPhone 5 will go on sale at 8am next Friday, 21 September.
What's in the box?
So what does all that money buy you? As well as the iPhone 5, lurking within the packaging you'll find some bundled earpods -- the new globular in-ear headphones that come with an attached remote and microphone, a Lightning port-to-USB cable and wall plug adaptor.
The Lightning to 30-pin adaptor that will allow the iPhone 5's new charging port to work with older cables, accessories or speaker docks is not listed as being 'in the box' -- but if you go to pre-order the phone, an optional accessories screen claims "Your iPhone includes a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter", and gives you the option to buy an additional adaptor for £30.
