The Carlson Worldwide travel company will replace its networked PCs with 2,000 Network Stations connected to 400 Netfinity servers.
Tomorrow, the company will announce that Carlson Worldwide, a U.K.-based travel company, will replace its networked PCs with 2,000 Network Stations connected to 400 Netfinity 3500 servers. Sources close to IBM estimate the value of the deal at over $4 million.
While Oracle's NC (network computer) and Sun's JavaStation "thin client" systems struggle to meet sales expectations, IBM continues to sign up customers for its Network Station. The company announced a similar deal with Allstate Insurance for 45,000 Network Stations, the biggest deployment of NCs to date.
Last month IBM announced an alliance with Intel to develop a high-end Network Station based on Intel processors.
