I am not a crook: Samsung YP-F2

"I am going to campaign up and down America until we drive the crooks and the Communists and those that defend them out of Washington," is not something you'd catch the YP-F2 saying

Chris Stevens

Clinging to its position with the ferocity of Nixon in the tumult of 1973, Samsung is making increasingly dubious efforts to convince the MP3 player buying public that its power remains intact. But in the doldrums where non-iPod players scrabble about like marmuts, is life really so fine?

Certainly, this campaign is still going strong. Samsung continues to release new models with the speed of a mini-gun, strapped to the side of a Huey and gobbing armour-piercing shells. But what match are these sporadic attacks for the napalm bombardment that is Apple?

The war continues, but only one side is taking casualities. Could the YP-F2 lead Samsung to an unlikely victory? Judging from its lethally uninspiring looks and bank manager interface, no. Stop taking your design cues from Battlestar Galactica, Samsung.

This new Samsung MP3 player should be available in Europe soon. The YP-F2 plays MP3, WMA, OGG and WAV audio files. Battery life is a claimed 13 hours and it's available in three configurations: 512MB (£60), 1GB (£80), and 2GB (£130).
