Exchange server gets service pack

Microsoft will next week post more than 150 fixes and enhancements for the Exchange 5.0 groupware server, including the Outlook email client.

Microsoft (MSFT) will next week post the first service pack for the Exchange 5.0 groupware server, which includes more than 150 fixes and enhancements, by the end of the week.

The service pack, which has been in a limited beta-test program, will now support multiple offline address books as well as several updates for the Outlook email client.

Outlook enhancements include recently posted software updates and bug fixes, such as the patch delivered last month after a bug was discovered that caused system resource problems if the software was installed over the previous Exchange client.

The enhanced Outlook Web Access front-end tool for Exchange 5.0 servers now has the same interface as Outlook 97. The service pack will be available Friday for free download on Microsoft's Web site.
