eVoice hangs up on voicemail service

eVoice, a low-cost voicemail service that alerted customers of new messages via e-mail, informed its customers this week that the company will discontinue service later this month. On July 27, Premium Virtual account customers will no longer receive messages, and a request will be made to phone companies to have call forwarding from home phones to eVoice removed. eVoice hopes to have the disconnect process finished by Aug. 10. eVoice originally began as a free advertising-supported voicemail service, but, like so many free Internet service start-up companies, it later began charging customers. eVoice said it would not charge customers for the month of July and would credit the account of those already billed via credit card.
