The new HTC flagship is only a few days away, but if you're a football fan and don't mind having last year's phone in your pocket then check out the new Champions League limited edition HTC One M8 .

The new Collector's Edition HTC One M8 has the name of every past UEFA Champions League winner engraved on its brushed aluminium back, from Marseille's win in the first tournament in 1992 to Real Madrid's record-setting 10th win last season. British teams standing proudly on the list include Manchester United (twice), Liverpool and Chelsea.

The UEFA Champions League replaced the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1992, and has been won by teams including England's Manchester Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea. HTC

This is the second Champions League Collector's Edition phone from HTC, after a previous version was emblazoned with a picture of the contest's cup. Like that august trophy, only winners can get their hands on the special phone: it's not going on sale and can only be won through HTC's social media channels.

The special M8 was launched by a safe pair of safe pairs of hands: Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel and Arsenal Women's goalkeeper Emma Byrne. As they posed for selfies, they probably wondered why the phone is being launched today when its replacement will be unveiled at a press conference this weekend.

We'll be at the launch of the hotly tipped HTC One M9 on 1 March, live from Barcelona -- home of the three times Champions League champions -- where the mobile industry gathers to show off its wares at Mobile World Congress 2015. We'll be liveblogging HTC's event, where we're likely to see the new flagship phone and maybe a few surprises.
