A popular spam e-mail circulating across the Internet for the past year or so warns recipients that cell phone numbers will soon be released to telemarketers and that you could start to receive calls that will eat up your cell phone minutes. As I write in my latest , however, the claims made in this e-mail are bogus. There is a national directory of cell phone numbers, but participation by consumers is voluntary. More important, the directory will not be printed, posted on the Internet, or sold to telemarketers.
