Apple Lossless format coming to iTunes Music Store?
It's but a rumor (originating here), but Apple may offer songs encoded in Apple Lossless, which reduces file size by half without sacrificing any audio data from the original source. This option would satisfy those who complain that the songs currently sold for 99 cents have too low a bit rate (128Kbps AAC). Currently the Apple Lossless format does not support DRM, and iTunes users can encode their own CDs into the lossless format, which can be played back on iPods.
