Analog cell phones on their way out

The Federal Communications Commission will let wireless carriers phase out service to analog cell phones in the next five years, it ruled Friday. About 20 million people in the United States still use these phones.

Wireless carriers in general have lauded the decision. They've had to maintain two separate phone networks--one to service analog phones and one to service the 85 percent of the nation's 140 million cell phones that use digital technology.
