Nanoleaf Rhythm turned our smart home into a dance club

[MUSIC] Nanoleaf's color changing Aurora Light Panels are a likable and eye-catching Smart Home novelty. This year you can upgrade those panels with the Nanoleaf Rhythm. An itty-bitty module with a built in microphone, that can translate anything it hears into a synchronized light show. The cost, $50, or $30, if you buy it bundled with a Nine-Panel Aurora Starter Kit, which costs $200. Nanoleaf's app offers a variety of different rhythm presents that use different colors and animation patterns. You can download new presets from a growing library of user-created options, or you can create your own. The options are a little limited, you can't control the microphone sensitivity to things like bass and treble for instance, but it's still a nice way to keep the feature from getting stale too quickly. Like the standard color presets, you can activate your rhythm presets using voice commands with Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. I also appreciate that like the aurora panels themselves, nanoleaf rhythm gives you physical controls too. Getting started with the rhythm module is a cinch. Just connect it to one of your aurora panels and the app will automatically detect it and start offering up rhythm tree sets for you to play with. Latency was nice and low when I tested it out. And while I sometimes had to experiment a bit to find a really good looking visual for a given song, most of the presets seemed to work well with the variety of different music types. [MUSIC] Bottom line, this seems like a no-brainer upgrade if you already invested in Nanoleaf's Aurora panels. And if you're thinking of buying in, that rhythm starter kit seems like a good option.
