2020 Ford Explorer ST: A 400-horsepower people mover
The 2020 Ford Explorer ST will enable families to go anywhere quickly thanks to a turbocharged V6 with 400 ponies and upgraded suspension.
The 2020 Ford Explorer ST becomes the second crossover SUV in the Blue Oval lineup to receive the ST performance treatment.
For power, the ST uses an updated 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.
The 4,701-pound Explorer ST has a top sped of 143 mph.
Working with the engine is a 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The gearbox is tuned to perform quicker gear changes compared to the regular Explorer models.
When you want to get the most out of the Explorer ST, Sport mode provides more aggressive throttle mapping, altered transmission shift behavior, weightier steering and a louder engine note.
For days the Explorer ST can hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds.
For sharper handling, the ST gets unique shock absorbers, springs and 21-inch wheels wrapped with Pirelli tires.
Visually setting the ST apart from the rest of the Explorer lineup is a unique front grille with mesh insert, gloss black accents, dual quad exhaust tips and red-painted brake calipers.
Inside, there's a flat-bottom steering wheel, exclusive accent stitching and Ford Performance scuff plates.
The 2020 Ford Explorer ST will arrive in dealers this summer along the rest of the new sixth-generation Explorer models.
