When will LG's OLED TV hit Australia?

LG has remained vague on the local launch timing of its hotly anticipated next-gen TV.

LG's EM9600 OLED TV was an instant hit at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, taking out the coveted Best of Show award. Since then, speculation has been rife on the timing for an Australian launch of the 55-inch TV.

Documents sighted by Good Gear Guide back in June indicated that LG was working towards an October launch and a potential price tag of US$10,000. This time frame seemed to be supported by LG's announcement that it had appointed Russ Prendergast as marketing manager for the home entertainment category, specifically noting that he had been brought on to launch the OLED TV in Australia.

LG, however, refused to be drawn in to the speculation regarding the arrival of the OLED TV. It issued the following statement through its PR team:

As announced at CES, LG can confirm it is to launch a 55-inch OLED TV. Our Cinema 3D OLED TV will be LG innovation at its best and is a prime example of the bold imagination that inspires our entire Home Entertainment lineup. Due to the commercial sensitivities surrounding its launch, we are unable to discuss or confirm when we will unveil this product within the Australian market.

If CES and our own early looks are anything to go by, then LG is on to a winner — but with its countryman Samsung readying its own 55-inch OLED (the ES9500) for Australia, timing may well prove to be of the essence.
