Speaker 1: There was a big data breach at T-Mobile. Here's what you should know.
Speaker 1: T-Mobile confirmed that personal data of more than 40 million T-Mobile customers were stolen by hackers. The data that was taken belonged to former and perspective customers also actors took data that belonged to approximately 7.8 million current postpaid customers, approximately 850,000 active prepaid customers [00:00:30] also had their data compromised. What kind of data was stolen? T-Mobile says that it has determined that names driver's licenses, government identification, numbers, social security dates of birth and T-Mobile account pins were accessed. The company says that the exact personal information accessed varies by individual. So what data was not stolen, T-Mobile says it has no information that indicates that any passwords postpay pins, financial information or payment information [00:01:00] were compromised. So if you are or were a T-Mobile customer, what should you do? Next? The company has provided a number of solutions. First up T-Mobile is offering McAfee ID theft protection service for two years at no cost that service provides credit monitoring and ID resolution.
Speaker 1: Amongst other things. After the two years are up, you'll be contact to determine your next steps. Then they're setting up or changing your pin. T-Mobile says that it has proactively reset all pins [00:01:30] on the 850,000 active prepaid accounts that were compromised. You can change your pin by logging into your T-Mobile account or calling six 11 T-Mobile should suggests changing your password for best practices. Make sure your password is not easily guessable or reused from another service. I highly suggest using a password manager to generate a unique long password for every service. T-Mobile also has a page explaining its general recommendations for protecting [00:02:00] yourself, including getting a free credit report, getting front alerts and how to get in touch with the federal trade commission. If you need to, what if you used another service owned by T-Mobile? T-Mobile also says that no Metro by T-Mobile former sprint prepaid or boost customers had their names or pins exposed. If you get a phone call by someone claiming to be T-Mobile to reset your password or similar, do yourself a favor and do not provide any data on that call head right over to the T-Mobile site [00:02:30] directly, or call an official T-Mobile customer service number to make your changes.
